About the IATI Score Card

The IATI score card is the result of team BCDWDI's effort at the first Accountability Hack in The Hague on September 9th, 2016.

It is an attempt to calculate and visualize the quality of IATI reports per country and publishing organization. The term quality should be taken with a grain of salt, because we had to come up with a simple way of scoring reports in only a few hours. The inspiration for the scoring was the observation that it is very hard to really follow the money: although publishers are well-identified, participating organizations and recipients are often only identified by a (non-standard) name. Each report gets points for adding identifiers and providing more detail per transaction. In a sense, we reward reports which make use of optional XML elements and attributes to provide more detail and therefore more transparency to transactions.
